Brief

A large inventory of surplus broadcast, photography and production IT equipment required a structured route to market following its removal from active operational use. Featuring a substantial range of professionally maintained, low-usage assets released following a major OEM relocation, the sale included sought-after broadcast and production equipment from across the industry.

The objective was to maximise asset recovery across the entire inventory, from premium cinema lenses and broadcast cameras through to infrastructure, power distribution and supporting equipment, while reaching a qualified international buyer audience.

The auction comprised 402 lots of professional broadcast and production equipment and was supported by an internationally targeted marketing campaign designed to engage broadcasters, production companies, rental houses, engineers and specialist resellers across multiple territories.

Work

Hickman Shearer provided end-to-end asset disposal and auction management services for the Premium Broadcast, Photography and IT Equipment Auction, including:

  • Asset valuation and market assessment
  • Professional lotting and catalogue creation
  • International marketing to a qualified global buyer database
  • Auction management and bidder engagement
  • Buyer qualification and post-sale coordination

The campaign generated over 66,000 catalogue views and attracted bidders from nine countries.

The catalogue included a broad range of specialist equipment, including cinema lens sets, broadcast cameras, remote control panels, rack systems, audio infrastructure, power distribution equipment and production accessories.

Key sales included:

  • Cooke S8/i FF T1.4 6-Way Cine Lens Set – sold for £50,000
  • JDC Xtal Xpress Anamorphic 4-Way Lens Set – sold for £47,000 following 47 bids
  • Sony PMW-F55 Solid State Camcorders – sold for £750 each against estimates of £300–£350
  • Sony RCP-1500 Remote Control Panel – sold for £1,300 on 20 bids

The auction demonstrated strong demand not only for headline production assets, but also for supporting infrastructure equipment, with multiple ancillary and engineering lots significantly exceeding estimate.

Outcome

The Premium Broadcast, Photography and IT Equipment Auction successfully achieved global buyer engagement and strong competitive bidding across the catalogue, delivering sales to buyers across nine countries.

The results highlighted several important market indicators:

  • International demand remains strong for high-quality surplus broadcast and production equipment
  • Competitive auction exposure can significantly outperform internal book valuations and estimates
  • Supporting infrastructure and engineering equipment can deliver substantial residual value when marketed correctly
  • A professionally managed auction process maximises value recovery across the full inventory, not just premium headline assets

Two lens lots alone achieved a combined return of £97,000, while numerous infrastructure and support lots sold at several multiples above estimate.

The sale demonstrated the importance of accurate valuation, professional cataloguing and targeted international marketing in unlocking value from surplus broadcast and production assets.
